Lady Brigid is Concordia’s current Marshal Of Fence officer, Champion Bard and cadet to the (in)famous Robert Tytes. Her efforts in service to the barony and the greater fencing community have been increasingly noticeable to me, your humble Chronicler, over the past year. With the second (so far) annual Central Region Fencing Practice being held at the start of this month, it seems sensible to begin with her as the first subject of this new endeavor of mine: to gather and share the stories of our friends, neighbors and notable persons.

Besides your awards and official titles, how would you like to introduce yourself to the people reading this?

I am Brigid, your local friendly fencing marshal. I am provost to Master Bobby Tytes and student to Baron Declan.

What got you into the Society and what keeps you in it?

My dad joined to help my older brother socialize. My brother did not stay in the SCA. My dad got hurt at Pennsic one year and drove home alone so I decided after that to always attend with him.

What keeps me in is my found family. I am part of a lineage with fencing now and know many people in the wider fencing community. I have found where I belong.

At Ceilidh a couple months ago, you competed and won the Baronial Bardic Championship, and since I’m not a fencer, bardic events are where I’ve personally run into you the most. Tell me about your bardic “muses”: what things inspire your desire to engage with and perform them?

I am a fan of filk and tunes based on historical events. I also enjoy poking fun at ourselves and things that have happened. I am also inspired by tales and speeches about injustice.

You’ve been an active advocate for Concordia’s fencing community both locally and in the wider area. Tell me about how you got involved with the Central Region Fencing Practice and your hopes for it going forward.

This is now my second time hosting a regional practice. The first was before the first ever crown tournament by rapiers. I am inspired to help the rapier community come together and not only improve our individual skills but also our skills together as the East.

I hope I get to host one if not bi-yearly at least once a year.

What things are you excited or hopeful for in your future?

I am excited to Roses where I get to choose the topic for the Bardic War Point. I am also excited for the
fencing at Roses and being MiC again.
