Greetings all!

I have preliminary information about the bardic war point at this year’s Roses. There are some details that will get finalized as the event gets closer, but in the meantime I wanted to share the basics with the barony so that anyone who is thinking about participating can take what time they may need to prepare.

There will be a bardic circle on Saturday night beginning at 9pm. This will include the competition for the war point, as well as open participation. Competitors will perform first, and then the circle will be open to all. The idea for this year’s competition is to have fun, and show everyone your joy for the bardic arts. There’s no formal theme or format – I want competitors to share their favorite song/story/poem/etc with the crowd, and in the process show us why you love being a bard.

Performances need to be kept to seven minutes or less. Competitors will be judged based on performance polish, audience engagement, and what I’m calling “SCA relevance” – is this a period piece? Is it about the SCA or SCA culture? Is it a filk that still relates to who we are and what we do? Is it out of period?

If you would like to compete for the war point, please email me no later than the Thursday before Roses begins to sign up. Please provide your name as you would like to be introduced at the competition (including pronouns if you wish) and which side you declare for – York, Lancaster, or Stanley. Winners will be announced at Baronial court on Sunday.

If you don’t want to compete but want to participate, that’s awesome too! Just show up on Saturday night and I’ll make sure you get a turn.

If you have questions or need more information, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me! There are a few details still getting hammered out (including location), but once everything is sorted I will share the information right away.
